Model Bridge Building Event
KSPE Eastern Chapter's Model Bridge Building Competition is for local area high school students. Students build wooden bridges then the bridges are load tested to failure. Contact KSPE for more information.
FIRST Robotics Competition
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) was started in 1989 by Dean Kamen (founder of the Segway, portable dialysis machine, among many other inventions). Dean wanted to get high school students excited about math, science and engineering the way they were excited about football and basketball. Over sixty high school teams from all over the metro area and beyond, converge upon Hale Arena to pit their robot's skills against each other. Robots are built in 6 weeks from a common kit of parts provided by FIRST, and weigh up to 120 lbs. (excluding battery and bumpers). Visit www.kcfirst.org for more information.
Mathcounts
MATHCOUNTS is an annual competition for middle school students designed to promote student interest in mathematics.
For more information, please visit www.mathcounts.org.
Engineer-for-a-Day
The Engineer for a Day program is an excellent opportunity for high school students interested in pursuing an engineering career, to spend the day with a sponsoring engineer to learn more about the profession and observe some of the specific duties and challenges involved in the field engineering. Contact KSPE for more information.
